Mariken van Heugten

Mariken van Heugten (1973, Baexem, Netherlands) arrived at her artistic practice after a long marketing and logistics career spent in Austria, Spain, and Switzerland. Throughout this time, she remained closely connected to her creativity, and in 2018, she shifted her focus toward art. Since then, she has exhibited her work in Germany and the US, and has a growing, global following.

Her inspiration is rooted in the natural shapes, lines, and structures she observes in the lakes and mountains surrounding her home in southern Germany. Floral and abstract forms emerge in her paintings, where delicate colors and layered washes reveal themselves gradually with each viewing.

Her favorite material is ink because she feels this material best suits her motifs and she delights daily in the unexpected and whimsical way it flows.
